History of the spark plug- The history of spark plugs is traceable to 1800s, although it isn't certain who invented the first one. Edmond Berger, an immigrant from togo, may have created a spark plug in 1839. unfortunately, it was never patented. While others had a hand in developing the spark plug, Robert Bosh was the one too perfect and patent the technology. The German inventor, Robert Bosch, developed the first functioning spark plug in 1901. Before the spark plug came into use, manufactures relied on other sources, such as car batteries, to generate ignition, however, tapping car batteries seriously depleted power and in some cases caused fires. . To make a spark plug, first extrude or cold form steel to the proper hollow shape, then the steel forms called blanks, next blanks undergo further forming operations such as machine and knurling, and the side electrode with only partial blend, the ceramic insulator, with a hollow bore though it center, is molded under pressure.
How to gap a spark plug using a little bit of math- To gap a spark plug it is really easy. The only hard part is understanding the numbers on a gap tool. Got to know the difference between standard and metric. Standard is measured in inches or fraction of an inch. Metric is measured in millimeters. The numbers you see on a gaping tool are in inches most of the times you might see them is metric too. Example if you use a feller gauge to gap your spark plug you're going to have to do basic math like adding or subtraction.
